About

Take almost any path you please.”

With the exception of the following, every single word published on the site is taken from Moby-Dick; or, The Whale, published first in London in 1851*.

This site suggests that Moby-Dick is notoriously hard to read as a print novel because it was meant to be something of a Choose Your Own Adventure story instead. It wants to be interacted with — played with — in no particular order.

The site is built and maintained by Kayla Shipp at Emory University. Many thanks to Aesop Story Engine and the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship for their support of the project.
